Challenge: Update the existing building that houses the Conewango Township offices and Police Station.
Solution: We took steps to make this building much more energy efficient. We wrapped the building with rigid foam insulation and new metal siding, provided new windows, and doors. As well as insulating the shell of the building, we provided new HVAC equipment, further increasing their energy efficiency. We also added some new architectural elements around the entrances of the building to provide an aesthetically pleasing as well as sheltered entrance to the building.
Testimonial: From October 2008 to February 2009, the Conewango Township’s gas bill was $4,054. After the changes we made (insulation, new windows, new doors, new HVAC equipment), the same bill from October 2009 to February 2010 was $1,740. The 57% energy savings was well over our projected savings of 20-25%. This data is a testament to our real-world approach to green architecture, providing proof that simple steps can result in great savings.
