Challenge: St. Bonaventure University and the Warren County School District, facilitated by the Warren County Development Association, have partnered to offer a dual enrollment program that will give high school juniors and seniors the opportunity to take college level courses that will also count towards their high school graduation certificates. The chosen site is the vacant first level of the Pine Grove Ambulatory Surgery Center. The program consists of three offices, four classrooms, two laboratories, a large common area, and storage spaces.
Solution: The two laboratories and two smaller classrooms accommodate up to 16 students each, which is pedagogically appropriate size for teaching as well as learning. The larger two classrooms will accommodate up to 32 students each for lectures. Compared to many colleges and universities, this size student body for lectures is appropriately small and offers an excellent learning environment. The existing overhead utilities were the main challenge, they were originally installed with limited room for a comfortable ceiling height. We worked closely with our engineers and contractors to resolve this issue, during the construction process, we were able to eliminate many of the soffits we had planned for. The result is a comfortable, light filled learning environment.
Testimonial: Robert Crowley – Chair of the St. Bonaventure Dual Enrollment Advisory Committee “The students are extremely happy with the classrooms and labs as well as the study lounge.”
Jim Decker – President / CEO Warren County Chamber of Business & Industry ” Short of being mushy…working with Inscale, Jeff and Donna, is nothing short of a true pleasure. They are the ultimate professionals, easy and enjoyable to work with.”
