Northwest Savings Bank

Challenge:  Design a premier 3,300 s.f. Northwest Savings Bank branch on a historic site in Oil City.

Solution:  We approached the exterior aesthetic by responding to the historic nature of the area with architectural features such as natural materials, decorative brickwork and landscaping. Lightweight composite stone panels allowed us to use a long-lasting natural material while minimizing construction costs and material waste.We used interior design elements such as a large entry and high ceilings in the lobby to express a sense of comfort and scale.Energy efficient construction methods and systems were used. A hybrid radiant/forced air system allows for higher efficiency as well as the ability to quickly adjust to temperature changes.  We also used composite insulated sheathing and spray foam insulation to maximize energy efficiency.The site had issues that needed to be addressed, as it is relatively small and steep. This project included reviews by the state historic preservation office due to federal funding of the demolition of the existing building on the site.  In the final approval letter we were acknowledged for our comprehensive submission.
